Description

The HR Support Specialist AEC program is primarily directed at those who are looking to enter the workforce in the administrative field with a specialty in Human Resources, who are re-entering the workforce, or who are changing career paths.

The program aims to give individuals the ability to provide administrative support in the various areas of human resources management in a bilingual work environment subject to frequent change. More specifically, the HR Support Specialist will acquire the skills to:

  • assist in the staffing process;
  • apply the formal or informal remuneration policy;
  • perform payroll processing transactions;
  • ensure the administrative management of occupational health and safety files;
  • ensure the management of training activities;
  • contribute to the application and compliance with human resources management legislation;
  • contribute to the management of the working relations;
  • use information and communication technologies to organize work, carry out tasks and communicate.

Fields and type of employers

Graduates of this program will find employment in any type of business/organization in a range of economic sectors. The level of responsibility will vary depending on the size and the organization of the business concerned. The job title will vary according to the industry and the job description can differ. The following are some examples of possible job titles: Recruitment Assistant, Human Resource Assistant, HR Administrative Support, Personnel or Staffing Clerk.

Job Placement and Prospects

Job prospects for 2023-2027 are very good according to the Government of Quebec ‘’Exploring Trades and Occupations’’ web page for Administrative Assistants.

Salary range

$ 20.00 to $ 29.99 per hour according to Enquête relance 2022 of the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.

Courses

This program consists of fifteen (15) courses, for a total of 945 hours. Note that the following overview of courses by semester is subject to change.

 

Semester 1

410-140-LA    Human Resources Support: Roles and Responsibilities – 45 hours

This course explores the role of human resources within organizations, including the relationship to the labour market. Students will learn to accurately describe organizations and labor markets, understand the role of an HR support agent, analyze work functions and conditions, explore management trends, explore the tasks, responsibilities and working conditions of the role, and identify the skills associated with the work function.

410-141-LA Common Information Technology for Human Resources – 60 hours

This course develops students’ ability to use computerized environments effectively. Topics include functional use of operating systems, directory and file management, data security practices, data import/export procedures, and proper use of office equipment. Students will also learn effective information search techniques, word processing software functions, presentation software skills, internal messaging capabilities, and cloud storage management.

350-144-LA Professional Communication Skills – 75 hours

This course focuses on developing effective communication skills within the professional context of human resources support. Students will learn to recognize their personal communication style, adapt communication to different contexts, apply strategies and techniques, transmit information accurately, collaborate in teams, and participate in conflict resolution.

410-142-LA Legal Framework of Human Resources Management – 45 hours

This course explores the legal aspects of human resources management. Students will learn about various laws applicable to human resources, including federal and provincial jurisdictions. Topics include understanding and identifying relevant laws and regulations, employment contracts, effective information search techniques. Students will also explore the practical application of HR legislation within organizations.

602-143-LA Revising French Business Documents – 45 hours

This course focuses on enhancing French business writing skills. Students will learn to analyze sentences, correct grammar and spelling issues, use proper syntax, and effectively revise texts for clarity and accuracy.

Semester 2

410-230-LA Employee Selection Process – 75 hours

This course explores the recruitment and staffing processes. Topics include examining the current labour market, analyzing the human resources needs of the organization, participating in the recruitment process and selection activities, developing recruitment tools, participating in selection activities, coordinating employee onboarding, and contributing to staff retention efforts.

410-231-LA Producing Business Documents – 60 hours

In this course, students develop essential skills for creating effective business documents in the field of human resources. Students will learn to produce clear, concise, and relevant correspondence, adapt their writing style to different audiences, create structured HR documents, and prepare meeting-related materials while adhering to presentation standards.

410-232-LA Spreadsheet Functions for Human Resources – 60 hours

This course develops students’ mastery of skills for the use of spreadsheet functions in the context of human resources management. Topics explored include managing the layout and visual presentation of a spreadsheet document, using spreadsheet functions to organize, analyze, and create graphical representations of HR data, using sorting and filtering functions, automating tasks with macros, and applying statistical and logical functions.

410-233-LA Compensation and Employee Benefits – 60 hours

This course explores the knowledge and practical skills related to remuneration and benefits management in human resources. Students will examine remuneration policies, determining an employee’s pay scale, administering employee payroll files, understanding benefit plans, and effectively communicating remuneration and benefits information.

Semester 3

410-370-LA Management of Occupational Health and Safety Files – 45 hours

This course explores the administrative follow-up for workplace injuries, work stoppages, temporary assignments, and returns to work, managing claims, as well as employee referrals to support resources. The course also explores accident and incident prevention in the workplace, including participation in health and safety committees and disseminating relevant information.

410-371-LA Management of Employee Training Activities – 45 hours

This course focuses on effective management of training activities within organizations. Students will learn to analyze training needs and offers, propose appropriate options, coordinate logistics, and manage administrative aspects related to training activities.

410-372-LA Payroll Processing – 60 hours

This course provides students with knowledge and practical skills related to payroll management and accounting. Students will learn to calculate deductions, accurately process payroll, use accounting tools, produce necessary documents and reports, and contribute effectively to maintaining financial accuracy within organizations.

410-373-LA Labour Relations – 45 hours

This course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills related to labour relations, including understanding and applying employment contracts and contract clauses, the differences between employment contracts and collective agreements, and managing employee files.

 

 

410-374-LA Organizing Human Resources Support Work – 45 hours

This course develops students’ skills to leverage technological tools to plan and organize work within human resources. Students will learn to schedule meetings using availability applications, organize tasks through collaborative applications, facilitate virtual business communication, coordinate virtual meetings via videoconferencing, and identify technological innovations that optimize day-to-day HR operations.

Semester 4

410-1NT-LA Internship in Human Resources Support – 180 hours

This practical work placement serves as the final course of the program, allowing students to apply all competencies acquired during the program. Through real-world experience, students will perform human resources support functions. The internship emphasizes employability strategies, self-assessment, effective task performance, and collaborative teamwork.

Admission Requirements

There are ministerial requirements and there might be specific requirements for each program. Please make sure to check all of them.

Please note that Applicants will also be asked to provide proof of one of the following:

  • Canadian Citizenship
  • Permanent Residency
  • Permanent refugee status (must hold a valid study permit)
  • Valid Student Visa

Ministerial Requirements

Applicants must have a Secondary V diploma or equivalent or have acquired knowledge and skills deemed sufficient by the College for potential success in the program.  More specifically, they must show proof of:

  • A Diploma of High School Studies OR
  • A College Diploma or a University Degree OR
  • A partial high school program, coupled with a recommendation from a current or former employer that you would benefit from pursuing your education at the post-secondary level.

And

The applicant must meet one of the following requirements:

  • have interrupted studying full-time for at least two consecutive terms or one school year OR
  • be covered under an agreement between the college and an employer, or be benefiting from a government program OR
  • have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more OR
  • hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS/DEP)

Program Specific Requirements

  • A basic level of French proficiency is required and will be assessed during the required admission exam.
  • English language skills deemed sufficient for college-level English Instruction. Students will be required to take an English language admission exam.
  • Prospective candidates will be asked to submit their curriculum vitae (CV) and may be interviewed prior to admission to the program to verify their qualifications.
  • Potential candidates may be required to take an appropriate remedial course(s).

How to Apply

The steps to apply are as follows.

1. Attend an information session

The first step in the application process is to sign up for an information session. You can do that by clicking the “Attend an information session” button and completing the form that follows. During the information session, the pedagogical counsellor will explain the admission requirements, application process, and the functioning of the program in detail.

2. Submit an application for admission

After attending an information session, you will receive a link via email to access the Omnivox online application for Champlain Saint-Lambert.  Once you have accessed Omnivox, click the “Submit an Application for Admission” button to begin your application. Select the semester the program begins in, the Pathway (Continuing Education or RAC), and the program you are applying to. You will be asked to indicate your Quebec residency status. Follow the instructions that appear and provide the requested information to complete your application.

3. Upload all the required documents

You will be asked during the online application process to upload the following required documents.

Proof of residency documents, based on your status:

  • Québec birth certificate OR
  • Canadian birth certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ card OR
  • Canadian citizenship card/certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ Card OR
  • Permanent resident card AND a CSQ (Certificate of Selection of Quebec) or a valid Quebec RAMQ card in the event that you did not receive a CSQ

Schooling documents:

  • Secondary school, college, or university certificates AND
  • Transcripts for the highest level of schooling completed AND
  • Any other certifications relevant to the program.

4. Await the admission verdict

Once all required documents have been submitted, our team will contact you to schedule the admissions tests if there are any for the program you choose. Once you have completed the admissions tests, no further action is required on your part. The admissions team will review your application and will contact you by email once a decision has been made. We will also contact you by email if any additional information or documents are needed to make the admissions decision.
