Description
Graduates of this program will become specialists in cybersecurity. They will develop a comprehensive knowledge and skill set of all implicated technologies and cybersecurity concepts.
The role of cybersecurity technicians is primarily to ensure the protection of technological infrastructures using tools to detect intrusions and security incidents and to implement risk mitigation or threat eradication measures. Cybersecurity technicians also verify the compliance of configurations with cybersecurity policies and participate in risk assessment.
Cybersecurity technicians will:
- Be responsible for promoting cybersecurity within the organization by applying the best practices
- Play the role of reference and critical resource people, to counter new attacks
- Ensure the cyber resilience of the infrastructure they are protecting
- advise network administrators on:
- the management of access and digital identities on the network
- the management and configuration of equipment in order to ensure a rapid return to normal in the event of a cyber attack.

Cybersecurity specialists mainly employed in information technology consulting firms and in information technology units throughout the private and public sectors, or they may be self-employed.
Job Placement and Prospects
IT consultants are in high-demand as most organizations involved in these areas of activity are forced to hire individuals with their own-segmented specializations. According to the web page web Exploring Trades and Occupations of the Government of Quebec (February 2024), Computer Network and Web Technicians (National Occupational Classification (NOC) 22220) have very good work prospect.
Salary range
Between $20.00 $ and $47.80 per hour according to the web page web Exploring Trades and Occupations of the Government of Quebec (February 2024) for Computer Network and Web Technicians (National Occupational Classification (NOC) 22220).
Semester 1
420-B01-LA Preventive Surveillance in Cybersecurity – 75 Hours
This course will provide the students with an overview of cybersecurity prevention and response activities. It serves as a foundation for understanding the profession and situating the content covered by the program. At the end of the course, the students will be able to monitor a network in order to detect anomalies, intrusion attempts, or even worse, data exfiltration.
420-B02-LA Cyber Threat and Risk Analysis – 75 Hours
This course enables students to better understand cybersecurity issues and to prioritize activities based on the cyber threats and risks faced by an organization. In a realistic context, students will learn how to identify and assess the importance of cyber threats and how to quantify risk, based on an assessment of the probability and impact of exploiting risk factors.
Semester 2
420-B05-LA Vulnerability Management – 60 Hours
In this course, the students will learn how to detect and analyze software vulnerabilities on a network, as well as how to implement corrective measures in order to improve an organization’s security posture while minimizing the impact on its operations. At the end of the course, students will be able to identify vulnerable components, understand how vulnerabilities can be exploited and the level of risk incurred by the organization, suggest corrective measures, evaluate their effectiveness in a test environment and deploy the solution on a host or on an entire network.
420-B03-LA Cyber Defense – 90 Hours
This course enables students to secure and defend an IT infrastructure against malicious actors internal or external to the organization. From network architecture to privilege and access management, active defense techniques and cryptography to protect information and ensure business continuity in case of a cybersecurity incident. The students will learn how to assess and increase the resilience of the network and its components to different types of cyberattacks.
The skills acquired in this course will be reused in the Intrusion Testing and Cybersecurity Incident Management courses, where access control measures are directly tested.
Semester 3
420-B04-LA Conformity Assessment – 45 Hours
In this course, the students will learn how to audit a network and evaluate the security posture of an organization in a rigorous and methodical manner in order to verify its compliance with various reference frameworks and standards. It will also assess compliance with laws governing cybersecurity, particularly with respect to the protection of personal information.
420-B06-LA Intrusion Testing – 90 Hours
In this course, students will become “ethical hackers”, learning how to exploit security breaches in a preventive context according to clearly established rules of engagement. From test planning to the exploitation of security breaches, students will have to demonstrate a high level of respect for professional ethics. At the end of the course, they will be able to write a report that supports risk analysis and guides cyberdefence and cybersecurity incident response activities.
Semester 4
420-B07-LA Cybersecurity Incident Management – 75 Hours
In this course, the students will learn how to manage cybersecurity incidents in a way that minimizes the impact on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of company information and services. By the end of the course, students will be able to develop and implement a response plan to various types of incidents in order to quickly identify and analyze the incident, contain compromised systems to reduce the risk of data leakage or hacking to other platforms, and eradicate the cause of the incident. Finally, they will produce a report detailing the incident, the findings and the recommendations to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.
420-B08-LA Business Cybersecurity Management – 60 Hours
This course enables the students to link all the notions acquired during the training program. It consists of an integration project within which the students will be responsible for the security of a network. They will have to defend it against intrusions, secure it by adding access control measures, characterize the attack surface and make a risk analysis of it. In addition, students will have to produce a compliance report in accordance to the security policies of the fictitious organization they are responsible for.
Admission Requirements
There are ministerial requirements and there might be specific requirements for each program. Please make sure to check all of them.
Please note that Applicants will also be asked to provide proof of one of the following:
- Canadian Citizenship
- Permanent Residency
- Permanent refugee status (must hold a valid study permit)
- Valid Student Visa
Ministerial Requirements
Applicants must have a Secondary V diploma or equivalent or have acquired knowledge and skills deemed sufficient by the College for potential success in the program. More specifically, they must show proof of:
- A Diploma of High School Studies OR
- A College Diploma or a University Degree OR
- A partial high school program, coupled with a recommendation from a current or former employer that you would benefit from pursuing your education at the post-secondary level.
And
The applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have interrupted studying full-time for at least two consecutive terms or one school year OR
- Be covered under an agreement between the college and an employer, or benefiting from a government program OR
- Have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more OR
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS/DEP)
Program Specific Requirements
Interested individuals must fit one of the following profiles:
Profile A
- Have a college diploma (DEC) in computer science and have network management skills or an Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) in network management or training deemed sufficient.
Profile B
- Have recognized relevant experience as a network management technician.
- Candidates must have functional written and spoken English and French.
- Candidates will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) and will be interviewed prior to admission to the program to verify their qualification.
- Applicants with Profile B will have to provide a confirmation letter from the employer as a proof of experience.

Requirements to take part in the instructor-led virtual classes
To take part in the instructor-led virtual classes, you will need a personal computer with these minimal requirements:
- PC compatible with Windows 10
- Intel® Core™ i5 Processor
- 8 GB of RAM
- Hard drive of 500 GB
- Network cable or adapter
- Webcam with microphone
- High-speed internet (minimum 2 megabits)
How to Apply
1. Attend an information session
The first step in the application process is to sign up for an information session. You can do that by clicking the “Attend an information session” button and completing the form that follows. During the information session, which might be in a group or held individually, the pedagogical counsellor for the program will explain in detail the admission requirements, how the program works, and the application process.
2. Submit an application for admission
After attending an information session, you will receive an email with detailed application instructions and the link you will use to access Omnivox, Champlain College Saint Lambert’s online application platform. Submit your application for admission via Omnivox by following the instructions provided in the email.
3. Upload all the required documents
You will be asked during the online application process to upload the following required documents.
Proof of residency documents, based on your status:
- Québec birth certificate OR
- Canadian birth certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ card OR
- Canadian citizenship card/certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ Card OR
- Permanent resident card AND a CSQ (Certificate of Selection of Quebec) or a valid Quebec RAMQ card in the event that you did not receive a CSQ
Schooling documents:
- Secondary school, college, or university certificates AND
- Transcripts for the highest level of schooling completed AND
- Any other certifications relevant to the program.

4. Await the admission verdict
Once you have submitted all required documents, no further action is needed from you. Our admissions’ team will be reviewing your application, and we will contact you by email as soon as the admission verdict is available. We will also contact you by email should our admissions team require additional documentation or information before an admission decision can be made.
