Hats off to our amazing Indigenous Student Ambassadors and Indigenous Student Life Counsellor Jennifer Kanerahtoronkwas Paul who worked together to organize an incredible week of events leading up to Orange Shirt Day.
It is so important that we as a community take time to commemorate National Truth and Reconciliation Day as well as honour and celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage.
On Friday, Sept. 30, a Truth and Reconciliation Ceremony was held on campus with Sedalia Kawennotas Fazio, an Elder from Kahnawà:ke, and Harry Adams, an Elder from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, in attendance.
The Buffalo Hat Singers performed in the student space and there was a discussion afterward on Residential Schools, Reconciliation, and the impacts on Indigenous communities today.
We thank the organizers and guests for their participation!
