Seven members of the Champlain community were honoured in a ceremony April 10th celebrating local winners of the Forces Avenir Awards. The awards highlight individuals and groups for their contributions to college life and dedication in the classroom and beyond.

This year, the new student group Melanin Sisters Collective won the award in the category for Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice. For the second year running, the Green Team won the award in the category of Environment. The Adam’s P.A.C.E. program volunteers won the award in the category of Health and Healthy Living and the students behind the Queer History Workshops on campus won in the category of Society, Communications and Education.

In the category of Social Economy, Entrepreneurship and Business, the winner was student Mohamed Amine Zaghbi who runs a business building custom computers for customers from all over the Greater Montreal Area. Zaghbi, an Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management student, also sell computer parts on his online store for other enthusiasts.

“Thanks to my business, I was able to provide very affordable gaming computers to hundreds of Quebecers,” wrote Zaghbiin his application. “I also specialized in fixing computers and parts, which alleviates the excessive consumerism in the tech industry.”

In the individual awards category, the local award for Committed Personality was given to former CSA President (2022-23) and FLIP member Rafin Islam Khan.

The award for Committed Staff Member went to French teacher Catherine Kozminski for her incredible contributions to the college, its resources, the SAC and the French department during the course of her career.

Finally, the award for Persevering Personality was given to Film and New Media student Olivier Lespérance.

 

Congratulations to all the winners of the local Forces Avenir awards! Last year, Three projects from Champlain College Saint-Lambert were chosen as finalists in the Cegep category of the provincial Forces Avenir Awards.

The students representing the Mental Health Crew, the Diversity in Arts event and the Palestine Struggle Mission were invited to attend the gala in Quebec City where The Diversity of Arts group took home the trophy in the category of Arts, Letters and Culture.
