Specialist in Transportation and Logistics LCA.DS

This course introduces the foundational concepts of logistics, the supply chain and the key industries in the transportation milieu. Students will explore the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed to perform jobs within the supply chain. The students will propose appropriate modes and means of transport for merchandise and be exposed to key North American and International geographical networks/hubs important to transportation and logistics.

This course develops the use of a computer workstation as a business communication tool. Students apply key communication concepts to receive, interpret, transmit, store, and manage data. The course requires the preparation of emails and technical documents and the use of commonly used software such as the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Explorer, Outlook, and online tools.

This course develops the linguistic skills needed to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and colleagues within the transportation and logistics domain. The focus of the course is to accurately transmit and interpret messages to achieve domain specific tasks. This will be achieved through the development and interpretation of instructions, explanations, meetings, presentations, and technical documents.

Excel is the most widely used software in the transportation and logistics industry. This course develops the use of Excel functions to achieve tasks commonly encountered in the field of T&L. Students will apply formatting, basic calculations and functions, graphics, conditions, filters/sorting and pivot tables to analyze and communicate transportation and logistics problems.

This course develops the concepts and processes for importing goods to Canada and exporting goods from Canada. Students will collect all relevant information on the goods, obtain all the necessary documentation, prepare customs declarations, calculate tariffs and costs and transmit relevant information to government agencies and clients.

This course will introduce the importance of customer service in any business. It will provide students with the conceptual framework to provide high quality customer service to internal and external clients, to develop customer loyalty and to regain lost customers. Students will also be introduced to and apply the staircase sales technique. This course will help students develop communication skills and acquire interpersonal skills to work effectively in teams.

This course develops the concepts and processes for managing the flow of goods through the warehouse. Students will plan and apply the receipt of merchandise into the warehouse; plan and apply the put away of merchandise in the warehouse; update inventory levels; and plan and apply the picking, packing and shipment of merchandise from the warehouse.

This course develops the concepts and processes for managing the personnel and equipment for transporting goods by road, rail or multi-modal modes within North America. Students will develop the ability to analyze transportation option costs and develop transportation plans and documentation while adhering to all legal requirements. Students will manage the personnel required to move the goods and effectively communicate transportation plans to relevant people/organizations.

This course develops the concepts and processes for storing, handling and transporting dangerous goods. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to collect all relevant information on the dangerous goods to allow them to be stored, handled and transported in accordance with all government regulations. Students will also prepare necessary documentation and transmit relevant information to government agencies and clients.

This course develops the concepts for calculating costs associated with the storing and transportation of goods. Students will perform basic calculations used in logistics such as weights and volumes of goods to be transported/stored, conversion between units, and the use of map scales to effectively store and transport goods. Students will also classify fixed, variable, direct and indirect costs and calculate direct, overhead, indirect and total costs for logistics services.

This course develops the concepts and processes for forecasting demand, controlling/monitoring inventory levels and purchasing. Students will apply numerous techniques for forecasting demand as well as defining current inventory levels. This will allow students to identify the quantities of raw materials needed for production or the quantity of finished products to be purchased through the supplier selection-procurement process.

This course develops the concepts and processes for managing the personnel and equipment for transporting goods by road. Students will develop the ability to oversee vehicle maintenance and permits, analyze fleet management costs and adhere to all legal requirements to transport goods. Students will plan and monitor the dispatching of goods and manage the personnel required to move the goods.

This course develops the concepts and processes for managing the transportation of goods by air or marine internationally. Students will develop the ability to analyze transportation option costs and develop transportation plans and documentation while adhering to all legal requirements. Students will monitor and manage the movement of goods and effectively communicate transportation plans to relevant people/organizations.

This course develops the concepts and processes for the management of the supply chain and the potential effects of emerging technologies on the supply chain. Students will explore the interrelation between the purchasing process, mode of transport, and warehousing of goods as goods travel through the supply chain. Students will also explore the potential effects of emerging technologies on supply chain management and the importance of delivering a green supply chain.

The internship facilitates students’ integration into the workplace. Students will be guided through the job search process, the job interview and the creation of CVs, cover letters. The internship will allow the students to further apply the knowledge and skills of the program in a real world setting and demonstrate the behavior required of the industry.

Applicants must have a Secondary V diploma or equivalent or have acquired knowledge and skills deemed sufficient by the College for potential success in the program.  More specifically, they must show proof of:

• A Diploma of High School Studies OR
• A College Diploma or a University Degree OR
• A partial high school program, coupled with a recommendation from a current or former employer that you would benefit from pursuing your education at the post-secondary level.

And

The applicant must meet one of the following requirements:

• have interrupted studying full-time for at least two consecutive terms or one school year OR

• be covered under an agreement between the college and an employer, or be benefiting from a government program OR
• have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more OR
• hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS/DEP)

• Candidates must be functionally bilingual (French and English), particularly in their oral communication skills.
• Candidates are required to take the following entrance exams: Mathematics, English and French (oral and written).
• Prospective candidates will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) and may be interviewed prior to admission to the Program to verify their qualifications.
• Potential candidates may be required to take an appropriate remedial course(s).

After attending an information session, a link will be sent to you to access the Omnivox online application for Champlain Saint-Lambert.  Using the Submit an Application for Admission button, select the semester who want to register in, the Pathway (Continuing education or RAC), the program you want to register in and our legal status. Continue to follow the instructions and provide the required information.

You will be asked during the online application process to upload the following required documents.

Proof of residency documents, based on your status:

• Québec birth certificate OR
• Canadian birth certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ card OR
• Canadian citizenship card/certificate AND a valid Quebec RAMQ Card OR
• Permanent resident card AND a CSQ (Certificate of Selection of Quebec) or a valid Quebec RAMQ card in the event that you did not receive a CSQ

Schooling documents:

• Secondary school, college, or university certificates AND
• Transcripts for the highest level of schooling completed AND
• Any other certifications relevant to the program.

Once all required documents have been submitted, our team will contact you to schedule the admissions tests if there are any for the program you choose.
