Champlain Saint-Lambert’s Cavaliers Football Head Coach Shawn Mayne is in Edmonton this month, working as a Defensive Line Coach for the Team Canada 2 (U20) at the 2024 IFAF World Junior Championship.
The team played their first game against the team from Austria on June 22. Their next game is tomorrow, Wednesday, June 26 and the finals are on Sunday, June 30. This is the first year that the International Federation of American Football championship returns following a six-year hiatus.
Mayne, a former defensive end for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes, was able to bring his expertise and coaching knowledge to support one of two teams representing Canada at the tournament.
“It’s a great opportunity to coach young men from across Canada and represent our country,” said Mayne. “This is an experience I will never forget.”
Canada is one of eight countries competing in the event alongside America, Japan (Asia champion), Austria (European champion), Australia (Oceania champion), Panama (top-ranked team from South America) and Brazil (South American qualifier).
Good luck to all the athletes and coaches involved in the Championship this year!
